United confirm another layoff for Lisandro Martinez and one other player as club reach 53 separate cases of injury/illness

Manchester United have today confirmed that Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof will be out of action for around a month.

There were already concerns over Lindelof’s status given that he was hooked in the second half of the Reds’ draw with Brentford last Sunday, leaving the pitch around the 69th-minute mark after sustaining a hamstring problem.

Martinez then made his long-awaited return to action after eight weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury when he replaced his counterpart in the second half. He has, however, picked up a calf strain in training this week and been dealt a further layoff for around a month, which is also the same timeframe given for the Sweden international.

The club have now recorded an unprecedented 53 seperate cases of injury or illness this season, with Samuel Luckhurst claiming that some members of the team are ‘concerned by training intensity’.

United take on Chelsea this Thursday at Stamford Bridge before hosting Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. An FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City is also penned in for mid-April at Wembley, so Erik ten Hag can expect a slightly depleted squad for that fixture, too.
