Tottenham Hotspur Emerge as Contenders for Ligue 1 Talent
Icon Sport

With injuries and suspensions piling up for Tottenham Hotspur, bringing in more transfers this January will be crucial if they are to improve on last season’s 8th-place finish. This being said the North London club are reportedly aiming to contend with Premier League rivals Manchester United for the signature of Jean-Clair Todibo.

Tottenham Hotspur to Battle Red Devils for Jean-Clair Todibo

How Jean-Clair Todibo Could Improve Tottenham Hotspur

The OGC Nice man has established himself as a premier defender in the French top division. With multiple Spurs defenders unavailable, Todibo would be an excellent addition to the squad, providing quality depth and reliability in the middle of the defence: helping his club keep eight clean sheets this season in 14 matches played so far this term.

Alongside his tackling ability, the 23-year-old’s passing ability is another trait that Ange Postecoglou could be attracted to. Against FC Metz earlier this season, the French international completed nearly 165 passes in total, averaging almost two passes for every minute of the match.

If the Australian manager could convince him to make a move to the Premier League, the backline of the Lilywhites would have a great combination of offence and defence.

Potential Financial Figures

Considering that the move would likely be made in the January window, the french club would likely make the price tag steep. Additionally, the Toulouse academy product is a central figure for his team that is currently battling with PSG for a league title: making the transfer that much more complicated.

Compared to other defensive targets linked with Spurs like Sebastian Caceres, Lloyd Kelly, and Marc Guehi, Todibo is the youngest, tallest, and is the only one with experience in a European competition. Although it might be cheaper to sign one of the other players, acquiring someone with the traits, experience, and youth of the Frenchman could significantly improve Tottenham’s chances of returning to European competition.
