Sheffield United defender names as potential centre-back option for Napoli – report

According to recent reports, Napoli are closely monitoring Sheffield United centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic in their hunt for defensive reinforcements.

It is no secret that Napoli are on the lookout for a new central defender, as they had made an attempt to bring Radu Dragusin to the Stadio Maradona from Genoa before he eventually signed for Premier League side Tottenham. 

Recent reports suggest that Napoli also had a proposal for Alessandro Buongiorno turned down by Torino, and now he is reportedly in discussions over a move to Milan. 

Now, one of the leading candidates to fill Napoli’s centre-back position is Ahmedhodzic, a player who the Partenopei have followed for quite a while already. 

According to TMW, Napoli had been looking at Ahmedhodzic when Cristiano Giuntoli was still in charge of recruitment, prior to his switch to Juventus in the summer. 

Ahmedhodzic signed for Sheffield United in the summer of 2022 and played 34 league matches as the Blades gained promotion from the Championship last season. He has since gone on to make a further 14 appearances in the Premier League this season. 

Other defenders reported to be on Napoli’s radar include Belgium international Arthur Theate from Rennes, Galatasaray’s Nelsson and Oumar Solet from RB Salzburg. 

Napoli are also hoping to secure a deal for Fiorentina midfielder Antonin Barak in the coming days.
