United States striker Folarin Balogun has joined AS Monaco from Arsenal.

Balogun has signed a five-year contract with Monaco, who will pay Arsenal a £35 million transfer fee.

The move sees the 22-year-old return to France's Ligue 1 following a successful loan spell with Reims last season.

Balogun scored 22 goals in 37 league games for Reims.

He leaves the Emirates Stadium having made 10 senior appearances for Arsenal after coming through the club's youth academy.

Balogun scored two goals for the Gunners, with both coming in the UEFA Europa League in the 2020/21 campaign.

Arsenal announced Balogun's departure on Wednesday in a 294-word statement published on the club's official website.

The statement ended with the message: "We thank Folarin for his contribution to Arsenal, through our academy into the first team, and wish him the best of health and happiness in his new chapter at Monaco."

Balogun is likely to make his Monaco debut in a home game against Lens on Saturday.

Monaco finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season, narrowly missing out on a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
