Winnipeg Jets Acquire Tyler Toffoli From Devils at Trade Deadline
John Jones-USA TODAY Sports

The New Jersey Devils have sent forward Tyler Toffoli to the Winnipeg Jets ahead of Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline. The deal, confirmed by both the Jets and Devils involves draft picks returning to the Devils. They receive a 2025 2nd-round Draft Pick and a 2024 3rd-round Draft Pick.

The Devils, facing challenges in extending Toffoli’s contract, decided to make the trade as the winger enters the last year of his current deal. Toffoli sought a longer-term agreement, surpassing the team’s willingness to commit beyond a three-year term. Toffoli mentioned after the trade that he was confident a deal was coming after contract negotiations didn’t go anywhere.

With the Toffoli trade concluded, the Devils are now turning their attention to bolstering their goaltending. Speculation suggests the team has set its sights on Jacob Markstrom, although the completion of any deal before the trade deadline remains uncertain. The acquisition of a goaltender becomes a priority for the Devils as they aim to solidify their roster following the departure of Toffoli to the Jets.

Jets Get The Ideal Winger For Their Playoff Roster

Toffoli, known for his proficiency as a volume shooter and goal scorer, represents a significant upgrade for the Winnipeg Jets. His addition adds depth to the roster, providing another scoring threat. A seasoned top-six winger, Toffoli utilizes his hockey sense to navigate high-scoring areas, compensating for his not being the fastest skater.

The Jets, grappling with lineup adjustments throughout the season, anticipate Toffoli’s integration into the second line alongside Sean Monahan, another recent addition, and Nikolaj Ehlers.
