Watch: Former Devils forward Tyler Toffoli Scores First Two Goals for Winnipeg Jets
James Carey Lauder-USA TODAY Sports

Former New Jersey Devils forward, Tyler Toffoli, netted his first goal as a member of the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night.

Toffoli is now three games into his tenure with the Jets. Through his first two games with Winnipeg, the former Devils forward had yet to register a point in his return north of the border. In fact, it’s only been a small sample size, however, Toffoli had yet to do much of anything, averaging 16:06 of time on ice, and registering four shots in two contests.

That all changed on Friday night in the third period of the Jets’ tilt with the Ducks.

Leading 3-0 in the third period with just under 12 minutes left in regulation, fellow newly-acquired Jets forward Sean Monahan won a faceoff in the offensive zone. Toffoli, who was set up on the left side of the left circle, picked up the loose puck and wired it through traffic and past Ducks goaltender John Gibson just as quickly as the rubber met his tape.

The Jets took a commanding 4-0 lead.

From there, the floodgates were open. Just minutes later, the former Devils forward scored his second goal of the game, and second goal as a Jet, on the power play.

On the man advantage, center Mark Scheifele fired a puck toward Gibson, and with Toffoli playing net-front and causing havoc, the veteran forward redirected the shot over the Ducks’ goal line to further Winnipeg’s lead to 5-0.

Toffoli scored twice in just under three minutes and ended the contest with two goals on five shots in 12:28 of time on ice.

Toffoli’s first two goals with Winnipeg should come as no surprise to Devils fans. Each was scored in classic Toffoli fashion, turning an innocent play into a scoring opportunity with his elite shot, as well as giving the opposing goaltender trouble at the top of his crease.

There’s a reason Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald is interested in bringing Toffoli back in the summer.
