Vancouver Canucks sign defenceman Guillaume Brisebois to two-year extension

“We are excited to bring back Guillaume for a couple more seasons,” said Allvin. “Thanks to the coaching and development he has received from Jeremy Colliton and his staff in Abbotsford, Guillaume has taken a step forward this year. We will continue to work with him and expect that he will make a strong push for a regular NHL roster spot next year.”

The contract will be two-way in 2023-24 ($775k and $375k), and one-way in 2024-25, meaning Brisebois will be paid $775,000, regardless if he’s in the NHL or AHL.

Brisebois was originally drafted by the Canucks at 66th overall in the third round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Brisebois has spent the entirety of his professional career with the Canucks, and has regularly served as an AHL call up option over his six years with the organization.

As a result of some trades and multiple injuries currently plaguing the Canucks’ blue line — including the injury to Oliver Ekman-Larsson on the left side — Brisebois has been asked to step up and play more minutes at the NHL level than he has at any point in his career. Last night, he was paired up with Tyler Myers en route to the Canucks’ 4-3 shootout victory over the Nashville Predators on home ice.

Brisebois has tallied one assist this season, which is also the first and only point of his NHL career. The 25-year-old has appeared in 19 NHL games to go along with 241 career AHL games, recording 60 points (14 goals, 46 assists) and 106 penalty minutes in the process.
