Senators place Rourke Chartier on waviers
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Ottawa Senators placed forward Rourke Chartier on waivers Tuesday, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Through 34 games with the Senators this season, Chartier, 27, has two goals and an assist for three points, averaging 10:41 of ice time. In 53 career NHL games with the Senators and San Jose Sharks, Chartier has three goals and one assist for four points.

Drafted in the fifth round by the Sharks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Chartier spent two full seasons with the club’s AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, scoring 24 goals and 32 assists for 56 points in 95 games.

He made his NHL debut in the 2018-19 campaign, appearing in 13 games and scoring one goal during that time. He didn’t appear in another NHL game until the 2022-23 season, appearing in six games with the Senators in December 2022, then spending the rest of the season with the AHL’s Belleville Senators, where he scored 20 goals and eight assists for 28 points in 40 games.

Concussions have sidelined Chartier throughout his career, missing chunks of time in the AHL before sitting out the entire 2019-20 season with post-concussion symptoms.

Chartier spent four seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets, capped off with a career-high 48 goals and 34 assists for 82 points in 2014-15, helping the Rockets win the league championship in the Ed Chynoweth Cup. He was named the CHL Sportsman of the Year that season.
