Jason Spezza has been placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs and darn it if he won’t retire if claimed! Let’s get to today’s NHL Rumors.
The 37 year-old’s agent, Rick Curran made it very clear that if Spezza is claimed he will, “simply retire.”
Spezza was one of the game’s brightest stars but is more of a role player on the Leafs bottom six and has become expendable. He has averaged 26 points in his last three season and has one assist in three games this season in just 7:44 of TOI.
Teams can claim him up until 12PM ET today, but it isn’t expected.
The Edmonton Oilers can score all the goals they want, but keeping them out of the net is something they don’t do well. That job got even harder with number one goalie Mike Smith having to go on LTIR.
Today, the Oilers are hoping newly waived Leafs goalie, Aaron Dell will be available at 19 on the wire. Being based in Toronto means the Oilers won’t have to deal with quarantine restrictions from the U.S..
I am curious to see if EDM claims Dell and tells him to wait for them in Toronto. Oilers are there this week. That opens some options
