Kraken’s Adam Larsson given game misconduct for elbowing Stars’ Chris Tanev
Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Kraken defenseman Adam Larsson was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct after elbowing Dallas Stars’ Chris Tanev.

The incident occurred less than 20 seconds into the third period. While Tanev led with his elbow on the forecheck, it appeared to miss Tanev’s head and make contact with his right arm, which forced him to the locker room. He briefly returned to the game but would not be able to finish.

“We don’t have an update yet,” Stars head coach Pete DeBoer told reporters after the game on Tanev’s condition. “We’ll see what more news [comes] probably tomorrow when we get back (to Dallas) and evaluate him.”

Since being acquired from the Calgary Flames on Feb. 28, Tanev has one goal and one assist in 12 games with the Stars, averaging 18:30 in ice time. Before joining Dallas, he had a goal and 13 assists for 14 points in 56 games with the Flames.

Dallas won the game 3-0, two nights after clinching a spot in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a win over Vancouver Canucks. As of the morning of March 31, they trail the New York Rangers by one point for the Presidents’ Trophy.

With seven games to go, the Stars are 47-19-9 with 103 points, three points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche for the Central Division lead.

Meanwhile, Larsson has four goals and 14 assists for 18 points, averaging 23:04 of ice time with the Kraken in 73 games this season. The Kraken are 30-30-13 with 73 points, tied for fifth in the Pacific Division.

They are not officially eliminated from playoff contention, but with only nine games to go this season, they’re 14 points behind the Los Angeles Kings for the No. 2 Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
