Canucks' Tanner Pearson to miss remainder of 2022-23 season

Pearson required the second surgery Wednesday after a setback in his recovery. The original timeline laid out was four to six weeks which would have had Person in the lineup in late December. The 30-year-old Kitchener, Ontario product has been out since Nov. 9 and has five points (1G, 4A) in 14 games this season. Last season, Pearson registered 14 goals and 34 points in 68 games. 

Pearson joined the Canucks at the 2019 NHL trade deadline after spitting the year between the Los Angeles Kings, and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Cauccks dealt defenseman Erik Gudbranson to the Penguins in exchange for the Stanley Cup champion. Pearson was selected 30th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft by the L.A. Kings, and won a Stanley Cup in 2013-14; where he played a pivotal role and registered 12 points (4G, 8A) in 24 playoff games. He has tallied a total of 133 goals and 272 points in 590 career NHL games. Pearson sits sixth among current Canucks players with 114 points in 221 games.

While Jim Benning was still general manager, Pearson signed a three-year, $9,750,000 contract extension with the Canucks in April 2021 that has an average annual value (AAV) of $3,250,000, and a seven-team no-trade clause. Pearson’s absence and loss for the remainder of the season is a big blow to the Canucks. They currently sit last in the Pacific Division and 26th in the league with a record of 17-20-3.
