Canucks forward Jake Virtanen sued amid sexual assault allegation

Vancouver Canucks forward Jake Virtanen is reportedly being sued for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in 2017.

According to the Canadian Press (h/t Sportsnet), the lawsuit was filed in British Columbia last week and alleges Virtanen took the woman to a Vancouver hotel and assaulted her despite pleas for him to stop. The lawsuit adds that the woman endured physical and emotional damages.

Nothing has yet been filed on the defense's behalf, and the allegations haven't yet been heard in court.

The Canucks placed Virtanen on leave earlier this month, calling the allegations against him "concerning."

Virtanen has spent his entire six-year career in Vancouver after being selected sixth overall by the Canucks in the 2014 draft.
