Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that forward Boone Jenner would not return to Friday night’s game against the St. Louis Blues after being struck in the face by a puck.

In the second period of the game, Blue Jackets’ defenseman Ivan Provorov took a shot that went high and hit Jenner in the mouth, leading to the Columbus captain immediately grabbing his face and going straight to the locker room.

The Blue Jackets won the game 5-2, snapping a three-game losing streak.

In 29 games through the 2023-24 regular season, Jenner has 13 goals and five assists for 18 points. As of Dec. 8, he leads the team in goals.

Through 11 NHL seasons, Jenner has 183 goals and 164 assists for 347 points in 686 career games. He reached career highs in goals and points in 2015-16, scoring 30 times and recording 49 points.

Jenner was drafted by the Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Through four Ontario Hockey League seasons with the Oshawa Generals, Jenner scored 111 goals and 135 assists for 246 points.

The Blue Jackets are now 9-15-5 in their first 29 games, still last in the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division. Their next game is Sunday against the Florida Panthers. Puck drop is at 1 p.m. EST.
