Auston Matthews scores twice in Maple Leafs' 5-0 Game 1 win vs. Lightning

The Toronto Maple Leafs got their postseason off to a strong start Monday with a 5-0 win against the back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

Auston Matthews scored twice in the win with a power play goal in the second period and an even strength goal in the third.

Matthews, 24, became the first United States-born player to ever score 60 goals in a season and only the third player to reach that milestone in the last quarter-century.

Toronto's other three goals Monday were scored by Jake Muzzin, David Kampf and Mitchell Marner. Maple Leafs goaltender Jack Campbell recorded 24 saves in the shutout victory.

The Maple Leafs finished second in the Atlantic Division with a 54-21-7 record, five points ahead of the Lightning, who finished third with a 51-23-8 record. Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.
