Around the NHL: Bruins forward Milan Lucic arrested after alleged domestic incident

Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic was reportedly arrested Friday after allegedly assaulting his wife.

According to reporting by CBS News Boston, Lucic was arrested on Friday night after his wife made a 911 call to local police and told them that her husband had attacked and choked her.

CBS I-Team sources also indicated that Lucic appeared to be intoxicated when police arrived at the scene.

The Bruins released a statement on Saturday confirming that Lucic will take an indefinite leave of absence from the team in the wake of this incident.

“The Boston Bruins are aware of the situation involving Milan Lucic Friday evening,” the statement read. “Milan is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team. The organization takes these matters very seriously, and we will work with the Lucic family to provide any support and assistance they may need. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Lucic, 35, began his NHL career with the Bruins in the late 2000s. He returned to Boston on a one-year deal over the summer after spending the preceding four seasons with the Calgary Flames.

Before arriving in the NHL, Lucic played his junior hockey with the Vancouver Giants, with whom he won the Memorial Cup in 2007. Lucic has appeared in just four games with the Bruins this season while battling injury.

Bruins captain Brad Marchand, with whom Lucic won the Stanley Cup in 2011, addressed the situation in his media availability on Saturday.

“It’s tough to see your teammates and your friends going through stuff like this and their family,” Marchand said. “Yeah definitely worried about Britt and the kids and Looch himself, but they have all the support in the world. Anything they need we are going to be here for them.”

Lucic and his wife, Brittany, have been married since 2012. They have three children.

Through 1,177 career NHL games with the Bruins, Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings, Lucic has amassed 586 points and 1,301 penalty minutes.
