Two Colts players named most 'underrated free agents' at their position

There is still about a month left until NFL free agency opens on Mar. 13 at 4 p.m. ET, the start of the new league year. But teams are doing everything they can to prepare for it in the meantime.

First and foremost, teams must decide which players of their own who are free agents they want to try and re-sign. And while there will be a ton of talent available, several players will be overlooked.

Pro Football Focus believes two Colts players could be among those as it highlighted "one underrated 2024 NFL free agent at every defensive position."

The first player is DT Grover Stewart, a fourth-round pick in 2017. The 30-year-old has spent his entire seven-year NFL career with Indianapolis thus far and now the team must decide if it wants him to return in 2024.

Stewart signed a three-year, $30.75M contract with the Colts in 2020. But he is unlikely to make as much money this time around after posting just 41 tackles and 0.5 sacks in 11 games this past season. 

Although Stewart dealt with some injuries in 2023, PFF's Gordon McGuinness still believes Stewart "stands out in run defense" enough for another deal.

The second player is CB Kenny Moore II. After going undrafted in 2017, he proved Indianapolis right for giving him a chance in the league.

The 28-year-old has 516 tackles, 9.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, 17 interceptions, 54 passes defensed and three touchdowns since joining the team in 2017.

Moore II "is coming off a career year," according to McGuinness, and is certainly deserving of another deal since signing a four-year, $33.3M contract with the Colts in 2019.

Stewart and Moore II may not get the attention they deserve in the coming weeks, but that should only help Indianapolis retain both players, who could be overlooked.

The Colts have the fifth-most salary cap space ($62.75M) in the NFL, so money shouldn't be an issue. The team must now decide if those two players are valued at the same level that McGuinness considers them.
