Here are three possible landing spots for the best available tight end and former Washington Commander, Logan Thomas this offseason. The Virginia Tech product was one of the first cuts by the Commanders from their roster overhaul in this year’s free agency. He hasn’t been able to garner any interest from teams this offseason but he may sign with a team before this fall. However, one source is urging the Cleveland Browns to sign the 32-year-old this summer to add to their receiving corps.

Thomas is coming off a season proving he still has value, notching 496 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games. The issue is that injuries have been halting his success further making him one of the best tight ends in the league. He isn’t close to his season-best numbers but his production shows he could still have value. In 2020, the veteran was able to contribute 72 receptions for 670 yards and six touchdowns in that campaign.

He isn’t going to be a starter for a team but a second or third option for a team seems likely. The Browns have to make sure that Thomas can have one full healthy season before a huge commitment. A one-year contract seems like a risk but if the Browns or any team can get it done then it could work out. According to John Keim of ESPN, the Commanders were able to save $6.54 million by releasing him.

He was one of the most utilized pass-catchers last season despite his release so it shouldn’t be long until he signs with a new team. The Commanders are already moving with his replacement, Zach Ertz and second-rounder Ben Sinnott. There are no plans to bring him back. Here are three possible landing spots for Thomas.

Three Possible Landing Spots for Best Available Tight End Logan Thomas

Kansas City Chiefs

Thomas isn’t going to make a drastic change to the tight end room for a team but his experience is crucial as another option. The Chiefs are one team this season that has been doing their homework on a tight end in this past year’s draft. They were looking into the Kansas State product, Sinnott as a potential fit for the team until the Commanders selected him. It may surprise many talking heads why the Chiefs were trying to find a new tight end this offseason.

There have been rumors spiraling after the Super Bowl that Travis Kelce may consider retirement in the near future. However, the good news is the Super Bowl champion said there aren’t any plans to retire anytime soon. The Chiefs are still making sure that they’re careful of making their tight end corps the best on their roster. Kelce is arguably one of the best tight ends ever trailing other greats like Jason Witten, Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Gates.

All good things must come to an end, though, Kelce isn’t going to be around for long. Many like the Chiefs would understand that a play doesn’t last in the league, especially after winning many rings.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers are close to having a complete offense for their second-year quarterback, Bryce Young this offseason. They were able to acquire wide receiver, Diontae Johnson in a trade and Xavier Legette in this year’s draft. It looks like Dave Canales is aiming for some homegrown talent for Young which makes sense with an overloaded running back room too. Adding Thomas would be a nice selection to mentor Ja’Tavion Sanders, the fourth-round selection from this year’s draft.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are already loaded with their tight-end class this year. However, there’s nothing as “too much” in this league especially since injuries happen and production may not be there. Thomas could be someone who could complement Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau in the slot as TE3. It shouldn’t shock anyone if they add Thomas after they were aiming to get Brock Bowers in this past year’s draft.
