Steelers' Omar Khan Gives Praise To Mike Tomlin's Message And Proven Coaching Style
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Omar Khan made a recent appearance on The Jim Rome Show. During the show, Khan had nothing but praise for Pittsburgh. He mentioned the draft class, the new free agents, and the coaching staff, among other things. When asked about the longevity and effect that Head Coach Mike Tomlin leaves on players, Khan had nothing but compliments.

"Coach Tomlin is awesome ... I've never met someone who has a greater passion for the game of football than he does," Khan mentioned.

Tomlin has an extended track record of successful coaching, championships, playoff appearances, etc. He has an impressive 173-100 record as the Steelers head coach. He won the Super Bowl shortly after taking on the position in 2007, winning the big game in 2008 season. Tomlin would make another Super Bowl appearance in 2010, but be defeated by the Aaron Rodgers-led Green Bay Packers.

Tomlin is often praised by his players and even players of other teams who he has previously coached. Players such as quarterback Josh Dobbs, who had two stints with the Steelers before moving to the Arizona Cardinals, credited Tomlin for his work ethic and "no excuse" attitude.

"In this league, man, there's never an excuse for your circumstance. And I learned that from Coach T. You know, usually people don't really care about your circumstance, they just wanna see you succeed given the circumstance you're give," Dobbs said in a press conference.

Khan would go on to talk about the impact Tomlin has on current players. Tomlin's message has become a topic of criticism for some fans and media. Khan quickly shot this down.

"Every single day, I assure you it resonates with everyone in this building," Khan added.

Tomlin has stated on multiple occasions he holds players to the same standard of excellence. This message, no matter how old according to Khan, has never been worn out or meant less. Tomlin has a multitude of quotes about the standard he holds players to and how effective it can be.

Other Key Takeaways From Steelers' Omar Khan

Khan has made it clear that he has many goals for the 2024 season. His main focus he said was to win a Super Bowl. He has been on the Steelers staff since 2001 and holds his own Super bowl rings. Khan has made it very clear he wants another.

"We get into the season and start winning football games and we reach our goal, which is to win a Super Bowl. We don't wanna be watching from the couch and watching someone else play and win the game."

The Steelers have a history of championship success, but have become stagnant within the last 14 years while still showing signs of greatness. With Khan as the GM, the Steelers have had back-to-back A+ rated draft classes. Khan has also made many moves in free agency and continues to do so. He's revamped the Steelers quarterback room with Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears and Russell Wilson from the Denver Broncos, and the offensive line room with the many draft additions. This is on top of retaining an already explosive defense and special teams unit.

Khan also spoke about his excitement for new Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith, who was recently the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Khan spoke about the level of experience Smith brings in and mentioned his track record as the previous OC for the Tennessee Titans. He then spoke on the relationships that will build between Smith and the offense as training camp comes and goes.

"I'm confident we'll be in a good spot by the time the season starts."
