Steelers Cut Former Penn State RB
USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving on from former Penn State running back John Lovett after a short stint with the team. The team announced they were waiving Lovett in order to make room for newly-signed runner Xazavian Valladay.

Lovett sparked some interest when he signed with the Steelers, as the team brought in another young runner to replace the injured Alfonzo Graham. However, his time on the field didn't last long, as he participated in one practice before leaving with an undisclosed injury. He did not return to the field for a practice day afterward.

Currently, the Steelers running back room consists of Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren, Anthony McFarland, Gregg Bell and Valladay. With two spots locked in for Harris and Warren, Pittsburgh is searching for a third runner on their roster.

McFarland likely leads that race heading into the final week of training camp, but with two preseason games left, Valladay has an opportunity to make noise in Pittsburgh before the final roster cuts.
