The New Orleans Saints have been known for one major aspect as a franchise. With Mickey Loomis and Khai Harley as leaders in the front office, they've maneuvered the salary cap in ways that many folks will not understand.
They've started that process for their 2024 salary cap, too. Their first major move was to restructure star cornerback Marshon Lattimore's contract.
New Orleans converted $13.79 million of his $15 million 2024 base salary into an option bonus, creating $11.032 million in 2024 cap space.
The Saints' work to get under the cap in 2024 has begun early, as the team recently converted $13.79M of CB Marshon Lattimore's $15M 2024 base salary into an option bonus, creating $11.032M in 2024 cap space.

More work ahead, but they've begun chipping away.
The Saints are currently over the 2024 salary cap by about $76 million, according to OverTheCap. That's the most in the NFL currently.
Additionally, Lattimore's aforementioned option bonus does not kick in until a week before the start of the 2024 season. A trade will be on the table during the offseason, regardless of fans' thoughts on that premise.
A dealing of Lattimore is not required based on the new deal whatsoever, but the door is now open because of the structure. If there will be a time to make that move, this offseason would be it, based on money.
