Saints coach praises two players for heated argument
© Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints offense was difficult to watch for most of Week 14. They totaled 28 points as a team by the end of the game, but only 21 of those came from the offense.

Not to mention, two of their three offensive TDs came in the final 10 minutes of game time. The running game was inconsistent without Taysom Hill, and Derek Carr struggled again through the air.

During the win, Carr took a tough third-down sack that prompted a heated on-field exchange between the QB and center Erik McCoy.

Many fans noticed the scuffle on the broadcast. It was clear that McCoy was frustrated due to some miscommunication and the outcome of the play. Carr shared that frustration.

When asked about it, Saints head coach Dennis Allen made some strong statements about the exchange. He seemed quite positive about it, and that was surprising.

“I’m glad they both got the balls to stand up and fight...”

-- Allen on the Carr/McCoy argument

Allen also noted that folks just need to move on from it. Carr and McCoy already have, according to the coach.

The Saints QB also made it clear that he and McCoy are on good terms. They clearly do have a good relationship, overall.

"The perception of it, no, that doesn't matter...We had a great week of texting each other and practice and laughing and having fun and all that kind of stuff, so me and Erik have no issue. In the moment something happened. The reason doesn't matter. Everyone wants to know the reason, everybody wants to know the why. It doesn't matter. We were both right, we were both wrong at the same time. We both were like, my bad..."

-- Carr

McCoy conveyed the same emotions when asked about the incident. He said that he lost his cool, and it was just a disagreement.

Carr and McCoy both seemingly talked it out. There's clearly no fire lost between the Saints teammates during their disappointing season, either.
