Ryan Tannehill weighs in on Titans drafting Will Levis

Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill addressed the club drafting his potential replacement for the second consecutive spring.

"We’ve been down this road before," Tannehill told reporters on Wednesday, as shared by Nick Suss of the Tennessean. "It’s definitely a bit of a deja vu. (Head coach Mike Vrabel) and (general manager Ran Carthon) make those decisions. It’s my job to go out and win football games."

After the Titans selected signal-caller Malik Willis in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Tannehill sparked some controversy when he said he was "competing against" Willis instead of mentoring the then-rookie. The two ultimately put the matter behind them before training camp, and Tannehill noted he was "disappointed in how things got spun and twisted a little bit."

Tennessee was repeatedly linked with Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud this spring, and NBC Sports' Peter King wrote for a piece published on April 24 that the Titans "have lost faith in" Willis. While the Titans didn't complete a blockbuster trade to acquire Stroud, they did move up to the second pick of the second round of this year's draft to get Kentucky Wildcats product Will Levis.

Tannehill remains atop the depth chart even though he's in the final year of his contract. Suss wrote in January that the Titans could save $27M against the salary cap if they waive or trade Tannehill after June 1.

"My process doesn’t really change," Tannehill said. "I like to believe that I’m giving my all every time I go out there and prep, whether it’s OTAs or Week 15. You want to have a process."

Unless Levis looks ready to start as soon as spring workouts, it appears Tannehill will stay with the Titans through at least the start of the upcoming season.
