Raiders Under Contract: CB Cornell Armstrong
USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders signed 18 players to reserve/future contracts this month. Of those players, 14 had finished the 2023 season on the team's practice squad.

Raiders cornerback Cornell Armstrong was one of those 14, having been first signed to Las Vegas' practice squad back in October. Armstrong was activated to the active roster for the team's Week 7 meeting with the Chicago Bears after Raiders cornerbacks Jakorian Bennett and Nate Hobbs were ruled out with injury.

Armstrong did not play that Week 7 game, nor any game for the Raiders this season. He was placed back on the practice squad on Oct. 23.

Las Vegas signed Armstrong to a one-year, $1.1-million deal as part of his reserve/future contract in January.

The 28-year-old cornerback was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He would play in 15 games in his rookie season, primarily playing on special teams.

Armstrong was waived by Miami as part of end-of-training-camp roster cuts in 2019. A couple days later, he was signed by the Houston Texans, with whom he spent three years (two active seasons).

Armstrong played a total of 15 games with Houston but in the 2020 season, he played just one defensive snap while primarily serving his role on special teams.

In early September of 2021, the Texans waived Armstrong shortly after placing him on IR. He would then be placed on the Atlanta Falcons' IR.

Armstrong finally began to prove his worth in the NFL as a member of the Falcons, making four starts in nine games. He totaled 33 combined tackles and seven passes defensed.

Like Houston, though, Atlanta would waive Armstrong after having to place him on IR due to a strained hamstring.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
