Raiders sign former Chargers star Corey Liuget
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Raiders continue to add to their stockpile of veteran talent on defense.

The team announced on Sunday that it has signed former Los Angeles Chargers star defensive tackle Corey Liuget while placing veteran running back Doug Martin on injured reserve.

A first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2011, Liuget started 103 games in eight seasons with the team. He recorded 275 tackles and 24 sacks during that span.

During the height of his career, Liuget was among the best interior defensive linemen in the game. Unfortunately, injuries have plagued him since. The Illinois product has missed 14 games to injury over the past two seasons.

As it relates to Martin, a report earlier on Sunday indicated that he had been released. That’s apparently not the case. He’ll be on the injured list to start the season.
