Raheem Mostert not happy with performance despite making Dolphins history

Given his numbers this season, Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert may just be the biggest bargain of the 2023 offseason.

Following Miami’s 30-0 win over the New York Jets on Sunday, the 31-year-old running back leads the league with 18 rushing touchdowns, and he’s tied for the league lead with 20 total touchdowns — both of which are new Dolphins franchise records.

But despite his record-breaking day, Mostert wasn’t happy with his 15-carry, 42-yard rushing performance on Sunday.

“(The record) means a lot, just to be able to be in this position,” Mostert told CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson. “… It’s hard coming, but I did it. There’s always more to be done. Honestly, I’m more ticked off that I ran the way I did and lost yardage. I was averaging like 1.4 (yards per carry), which is not good at all.”

Mostert was referencing his three runs that resulted in negative-11 yards and two others that went for no gain. His 2.8 yards per carry was his also his second-lowest mark of the year, and his 42 yards rushing was also his third-fewest in a single game this season.

But despite a handful of negative plays, Mostert still had plenty to be proud of. His record-setting touchdown came midway through the first quarter on a third-and-goal handoff, which broke Ricky Williams’ team record of 16 rushing touchdowns that stood for over two decades, and Mark Clayton’s franchise record for total touchdowns that stood for 39 years.

Mostert also added a 1-yard scamper in the second quarter for his 18th rushing touchdown and 20th total touchdown, which tied him with San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey for the most in the NFL. It was Mostert’s six game with multiple rushing touchdowns this season.
