L'Jarius Sneed will prove his worth to the Titans twice a year vs Stefon Diggs
USA TODAY Sports

Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed had been introduced as the newest member of the Tennessee Titans for less than 24 hours before seeing just how important his presence in 2024 will be. On Wednesday, former All-Pro receiver Stefon Diggs was traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans

Time to earn your keep, buddy.

Imagine what Tennessee's secondary would be up against had they not added Sneed via a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs last week. General manager Ran Carthon signed corner Chidobe Awuzie in the first wave of free agency last month to work with nickel Roger McCreary and safety Amani Hooker, of course. Bringing Sneed into the fold give the Titans a legitimate shutdown option on one side of its defense.

Timely, given that Diggs comes to the AFC South in the middle of a divisional arms race.

Sneed has plenty of experience against the former Buffalo wide out to lean on. Since being selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Sneed has played in six of the seven match-ups between Kansas City and the Bills. Three of those contests have come in the postseason, with the Chiefs advancing past Buffalo each time.

Against Diggs, the newest Titans defensive back has fared well.

Diggs has registered only three catches for 37 yards on 10 targets when Sneed is the primary defender in coverage, according to Pro Football Focus. Tennessee will have their work cut out for them facing Houston twice a year in divisional play with Diggs running alongside Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has quite the arsenal as the reigning 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

"(Diggs)' a great receiver," Sneed told Sports Illustrated before Kansas City faced the Bills in this year's AFC Divisional Round. "Smart, great route runner, hard-working. And I think that's why he's been one of the top receivers in the league. He's definitely a talker. I am too, though."

The league will look forward to seeing these two premiere players square off twice a year when the Titans and Texans play.
