Jets first round wish list for the NFL Draft
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The time for the New York Jets to win is now and they can't afford to be patient anymore.

After what was by all accounts a very successful free agency by Joe Douglas and co. the Jets are in an enviable position for the draft where they don't need to focus on any one position, while being able to lean towards positions that are considered very deep in this draft.

The 2024 draft is deep at quarterback, wide receiver and offensive line.  The Jets have established starters at all of those positions, but not a lot of depth.  The Jets should be looking for either reinforcements or players that put them over the top.

So, lets take a look at the Jets' wish list for round one of the 2024 NFL draft.

This would obviously require the Jets to move up from the 10th pick because Harrison isn’t likely to last past the fifth overall pick. Harrison is as close to a can’t-miss wide receiver as there is in the draft this year or any. Pairing him with Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams (when healthy) would give Aaron Rodgers a gluttony of weapons that would be difficult for any defense to stop.

In a deep tackle draft, Alt is the clear-cut best available at the position. Much like Harrison, he likely won’t be available when the Jets are on the clock at 10 so it would take a jump up into the five to seven range to select him. Alt is a versatile tackle who can fit any NFL scheme. He is a talented run blocker and at worst he is above average as pass protector. Tyron Smith will start the year at left tackle, but if the Jets get 14 games out of the 33-year-old they should consider themselves lucky. Moses on the right side is also 33 but doesn’t have the injury history Smith has. Alt ensures that the offense can keep on going even when one of the tackles is out.

The 6’2” Odunze is a do-it-all receiver who has the desired measurables an NFL team covets. He has gliding speed and can separate from defenders on deep balls. He is reminiscent of Drake London with the Atlanta Falcons and can be a true X-receiver in the NFL. He would be a nice compliment to the Jets receiving core and would like take over as the number two man behind Garrett Wilson by the end of the year. Odunze is the most likely of the top three receivers to fall to the Jets at 10, but it is not likely.

Bowers is the definition of an offensive weapon and would be the most talented tight end Rodgers ever had in his career. Bowers can play all over the field. At Georgia, his career snaps spread between the slot (52.2 percent), inline (36.6 percent) and wide (9.5 percent). Rogers will enjoy finding ways to create mismatches on the field with a guy who can keep defensive coordinators up at night. Bowers is no slouch in the run-game either and isn’t afraid to get physical opening running lanes. Bowers’ limitations at the next level are only restricted by the creativity of those calling plays. He can be the x-factor in any game in which he steps on the field.

Fautanu might not be the best offensive lineman in the draft, but he is the best offensive lineman for the 2024 Jets because of one reason: versatility. Fautanu has the size, core strength and balance to be a plug and play guy in the NFL at all five positions. In a similar mold to Alijah Vera-Tucker, he may be best suited to be a guard but can play tackle or even center. For a team that dealt with so many injuries, having a top level talent able to fill in anywhere is a dream come true. Fautanu might be the Jets preference if they trade back from the 10 th pick as he could be available in the 13-16 range. If the Jets trade back, look for them to target Fautanu.

There is a lot of talent for the Jets picking at 10 and they will likely be working the phone and take an aggressive approach to the draft.  With so many jobs hanging in the balance, Joe Douglas will not be shy in making a deal that makes his team better this season.
