The rain clouds moved in and the team put on the pads once again for Thursday’s training camp practice. Here are some highlights from the Indianapolis Colts second padded practice.

Andrew Ogletree Fights for Spot During Colts Second Padded Practice

Rookie tight end Andrew “Drew” Ogletree showed out in the second practice with the team in shoulder pads. He had several big plays in all phases of practice on Thursday. Ogletree is finally showing why the Colts organization was so high on drafting him. If you did not know, the Colts were practically drooling when they finally got the chance to draft him in the 2022 NFL Draft. Various reports have surfaced regarding the organization’s affinity with Ogletree.

The offense started off practice hot. In 7-on-7s Matt Ryan was firing on all cylinders while dispersing the ball to his weapons. During this hot streak Ryan connected with Ogletree for debatably the play of training camp. Ryan tossed it up into a crowded endzone and Ogletree extended to snag it one handed on his way to the ground for a touchdown.

The competition for the TE 2 position is definitely heating up, but Colts fans saw this coming a long time ago. This production from Ogletree may cause the Colts to keep four tight ends on their 53 man roster.

Matt Ryan started the 11-on-11 work going 6-for-6 connecting with six different receiver. The biggest play was a 25 yard gain to none other than Ogletree.

False Alarm for Ryan Kelley

Ryan Kelley scared local media and fans on twitter after exiting practice before 11-on-11 work started. Jason Spriggs former IU guard got some reps at right guard after Danny Pinter slid to center in Kelly’s absence. This was the first O-line change needed this training camp. Thankfully Kelly returned to practice after a quick inspection from trainers and some rest.

Defense Came To Life to End Of Colts Second Padded Practice

After Ryan started 6-for-6 Kwity Paye recovered a fumbled exchange between Ryan and Jonathan Taylor to kick start the defensive fire. DeForest Buckner and Yannick Ngakoue got in on the action earning a training camp “sack” against Ryan. Stephon Gilmore and Julian Blackmon each had a pass break up on Ryan.

Both sides of the ball are showing progress in this training camp. It creates a lot of hope for the season to come.
