Detroit Lions Announce NFC Championship Roster Moves

The Detroit Lions announced a pair of practice squad elevations prior to their showdown against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game. 

Fullback Jason Cabinda and offensive lineman Michael Schofield have been elevated from the practice squad for Sunday's game.

Schofield has played in one game with the Lions, as he was elevated for the team’s Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers. The 10-year veteran played collegiately at Michigan. 

Tight end Zach Ertz was not elevated despite the Lions making an effort to get him acclimated to the offense quickly. He signed with the team's practice squad on Monday. 

Cabinda has been an elevation in each game of the postseason as well as the regular season finale. He began the year on the active roster, but suffered a knee injury that put him on injured reserve until Week 17. 

He was activated from IR ahead of the team's game against Dallas, but subsequently waived one day later. He resigned with the Lions and was placed on the practice squad the following week. 

The Lions have been to just one NFC Championship game prior to this one in their history. As a result, there has been a heightened level of emotion surrounding the game.

However, coach Dan Campbell has not so much as attempted to rein his team in ahead of the game.

"I don't want to pull them back," Campbell said. "I'm not pulling them back. No, we're going. We're going. They'll adjust on the fly, but we're going in. We'll be ready."
