The Cowboys wanted Odell Beckham Jr. but ended up with T.Y. Hilton, and that's perfectly fine.
On Monday, Dallas signed the four-time Pro Bowler to a one-year deal for $1.2 million, so it didn't have to break out the entire checkbook to sign an injured, aging wide receiver who's starting to exit his prime.

Beckham Jr. wearing a star on his helmet is a fun scenario, but it didn't make sense.
From NFL Now: Free agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. wanted a Michael Gallup-type offer from the #Rams, which is why he's upset. But plenty of time to make it happen (if both sides are still interested). pic.twitter.com/kBNimD35uc

Per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the 30-year-old WR wanted a contract similar to the Cowboys' Michael Gallup, who's on a five-year deal with $32 million guaranteed.
That presented a problem because Dallas might want to save cap space since Tony Pollard and Trevon Diggs have rookie deals that expire in 2023 and 2024.
Signing a player who recorded fewer receptions (67) than Gallup (94) over the previous two seasons creates problems. Plus, OBJ is coming off a torn ACL suffered in Super Bowl LVI and doesn't want to play in the regular season.

"I'm not saying that I couldn't step in and play any regular season, but I don't see the point. I would rather play when the pressure is on," Beckham Jr. said on Prime Video's "TNF in the Shop" recently.
The Cowboys can't risk blowing up team chemistry. Dallas has the fourth-best Super Bowl odds, per Oddschecker. Putting OBJ into the mix is too risky.
After Sunday's 27-23 victory over the Texans, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear he hasn't moved on from Beckham Jr.
"Not at all, with a big exclamation point," he said.
Stop it, Jerry. Move on. Hilton's career statistics are comparable to Beckham Jr.'s, and he comes with far fewer concerns.

Hilton is the second choice, but he's a better fit.
