Could Landon Collins be an option for Packers at safety?
Would Landon Collins be a good fit for the Packers? Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Could Landon Collins be an option for Packers to bolster safety position?

To be clear, the Green Bay Packers already have two starting safeties in Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage. They are two of the top duos in the game. However, there is not much behind them. Tariq Carpenter (rookie), Innis Gaines (second season), Shawn Davis (second season), Vernon Scott (third season) and Tre Sterling (rookie) do not have much experience as backups and practice squad players. The defense might need another veteran to provide depth and complete the defense heading into this season. This is where free agent Landon Collins comes in.

The Packers were named a potential landing spot for Collins, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, in a Bleacher Report article. After making three straight Pro Bowls from 2016-2018 with the Giants, Collins did not make as much of an impact in Washington from 2019-2021. He has missed 13 games over the past two seasons and is coming off a rough season in which he allowed a completion percentage of 70.5%. That is a big no-no. However, sometimes a new change of scenery is all a great player needs to find his groove again. The Packers could help him.

Collins has started all 94 games in his NFL career. He has a lot of experience, which is something teams can never have enough of. The former All-Pro has over 670 tackles in his career, along with 41 tackles for loss and 16 QB hits.

In Joe Barry's defense, Collins could either be the third safety on the field or play in a hybrid role in the middle of the defense. Collins is six-feet tall and weighs almost 220 lbs. He has the size to match up with bigger receivers but the speed to play sideline-to-sideline and even blitz the quarterback. A one-year deal worth around $4 has very little risk. Green Bay needs more depth. They would get exactly that and more talent. The team has roughly $17M in cap space.
