Brandin Cooks has 'no ego' as part of Cowboys offense

New Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks has indicated he will happily take a backseat to teammates CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup as it pertains to getting looks from quarterback Dak Prescott.

"CeeDee, you’re talking about a guy that’s been electric since the moment he stepped into this league but you saw last year what he did to really just go into that mode of a true No. 1 receiver,"  Cooks said on a recent edition of "The Adam Schefter Podcast," as shared by the Dallas Morning News (h/t Pro Football Talk).

"I’ve got a lot of respect for his game from afar and I hit him up and was like, 'Look, I’m coming to just help.' Like, there’s no ego. And same thing with Michael Gallup."

Per ESPN stats, Lamb finished this past regular season first among Cowboys players with 107 catches, 156 targets, 1,359 receiving yards and nine touchdown grabs. Gallup had 39 catches, 74 targets, 424 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions.

Cooks joined the Cowboys via a trade with the Houston Texans in March, after he had left little doubt on multiple occasions that he wanted out of Houston amid the franchise's ongoing rebuild. The 29-year-old, who recorded 57 receptions for 699 yards and three touchdowns during his final campaign with the Texans, was mostly unhappy with that club's perceived lack of direction. He has since made it known he "couldn’t be more hungry" to chase a Super Bowl ring with a Dallas team that notched a playoff win in January.

"And then you talk about Dak, his competitive nature, the way that he goes about his work, you hear about it from teammates or ex-teammates, the way that he carries himself, I’m truly excited to be able to play with a guy who is hungry to get better," Cooks added during his airtime.

Prescott presumably will have to spread the love to keep everyone satisfied throughout the season, but at least for now, Cooks is embracing a "just happy to be here" mentality ahead of spring workouts.
