Bears signing 1,000-yard running back to three-year deal

The Chicago Bears are starting the legal tampering period on a high note. The NFC North franchise was expected to have a busy offseason and it didn't take long for them to take a swing for a star player.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reports the Bears are signing former Philadelphia Eagles star running back D'Andre Swift. The three-year deal will pay Swift $24 million, including $15.3 million guaranteed.

After spending the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Detroit Lions, Swift joined the Eagles last offseason. That decision paid off for the Eagles, who saw Swift blossom into a reliable running back.

In 16 games played in Philadelphia, Swift recorded 1,049 yards in 229 rushing attempts (both career-highs), scoring five touchdowns.

Last season was a rollercoaster for Swift's former team. They went from the top to the bottom, finishing the campaign on a low note against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the playoff.

Now, just like the Bears, Swift is having a fresh start, set to make a statement at Soldier Field.

Chicago still has questions to answer regarding quarterback Justin Fields, whose future remains up in the air. They are widely expected to select Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

In recent days, the Bears were also linked with Saquon Barkley. But in the end, they landed another NFC East running back in Swift.
