49ers work out Casey Hayward ahead of playoffs
Matt Pendleton-USA TODAY Sports

According to the NFL transaction wire and reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in the Houston area, the San Francisco 49ers have worked out cornerback Casey Hayward as the team prepares for the start of the playoffs.

Hayward hasn't played in a game since October 16, 2022, when he suffered a shoulder injury with the Atlanta Falcons, leading to his placement on injured reserve two days later. The Falcons released him on April 21, 2023.

Drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the second round from Vanderbilt in 2012, Hayward has appeared in 152 games with 118 starts over his career. His stat line in those games includes 448 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, 25 interceptions, 112 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.

In addition to the Falcons and Packers, Hayward has also played for the Los Angeles Chargers (2016-20) and the Las Vegas Raiders (2021). During his career, he earned two Pro Bowl selections (2016-17) and two second-team All-Pro nods (2016-17).
