ACC Tournament fact shines light on awful Wizards season

North Carolina State won five games in five nights at the Capital One Arena in D.C. to win the ACC Tournament. That's more than the Washington Wizards have won there all season.

North Carolina State became an unlikely ACC champion by defeating No. 4 North Carolina in the final Saturday night. That's five wins in five games for the Wolf Pack, more than the NBA's Washington Wizards have accumulated in their 30 home games this season.

The Wizards have the worst record in the NBA this season at 11-56, a winning percentage of 16.4 percent. Somehow they've been even worse at home, going 4-26, a winning percentage of 13.3 percent.

They do have a chance to beat the Wolf Pack's five-win total, since the last part of their schedule includes 11 of their last 15 games at home. But while N.C. State was highly incentivized to win, going into the tournament with a 17-14 record and almost no chance at the NCAA Tournament without running the table in D.C., the Wizards have slightly different motivations.

The Wizards organization only needs to preserve their odds at a top pick in the NBA Draft, meaning they need to lose, lose, lose. With stars Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole on long-term contracts, even the individuals players have very little motivation to win.

That means the Wolf Pack really could win more games on the Wizards' home court in five days than Washington can in six months. It's an amazing accomplishment for N.C. State. And it's almost grounds for a class-action lawsuit from the beleaguered Wizards season-ticket holders.
