White Sox Top Prospect Colson Montgomery Likely Bound for Arizona Fall League
Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox will likely send top prospect Colson Montgomery to the Arizona Fall League, per James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times.

The 21-year-old had a delayed start to the 2023 season as a back injury kept him sidelined for two and a half months. Since returning to the field, Montgomery is slashing .298/.470/.494 with six home runs and 32 RBIs in 51 games across three levels of the minors.

A first-round draft pick of the White Sox in 2021, Mongomery spent time in the Arizona Complex League and High-A before receiving a promotion to Double-A Birmingham as the calendar flipped to August.

Despite missing time due to the back injury, Montgomery jumped from No. 38 to No. 17 on MLB Pipeline's updated top 100 prospects list. The 6-foot-3 shortstop also maintained his place as the White Sox' top prospect.

Montgomery will likely play out the rest of the season with the Birmingham Barons, whose last game is Sept. 17. He is then expected to join the Glendale Desert Dogs for extra reps when Arizona Fall League action begins on Oct. 2.
