Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football program secured a notable win on the recruiting trail, landing a verbal commitment from one of the spring’s fastest-rising athletes, Luke Emmerich.

Hailing from Monticello, Minnesota, Emmerich announced his decision on social media Friday morning, following discussions with coach Fickell and Badgers defensive coordinator Mike Tressel, who acted as the lead recruiter for the 2025 ATH.

“When you know, you know,” Emmerich wrote

Standing at 6-foot-2 inches and weighing 195 pounds, Emmerich emerges as an intriguing ball of clay for the Wisconsin football program. Despite speculation about his potential transition to linebacker due to his size, a source says Emmerich is coming to the Badgers as an athlete.

His versatility on the field is evident. During his sophomore year, he showcased legit talent across various positions, such as safety and wide receiver, before a significant injury sidelined him for his junior season at Monticello Senior High School. However, Emmerich has returned to full health this spring and promptly put his speed on display, where he clocked an impressive 10.69 in the 100-meter dash during track season.

Emmerich, who visited the Wisconsin football team in mid-April, saw his recruitment gain significant momentum. During the spring evaluation period, a flurry of scholarship offers poured in. Notable programs such as Iowa State, Michigan State, USC, and Washington have extended offers to the rising athlete, with Ohio State getting in the mix late as well.

Ranked as a three-star prospect by the composite recruiting rankings, Emmerich adds depth and top-shelf athleticism to the Wisconsin football program’s 2025 recruiting class, which now boasts ten total commits. Emmerich is rated as the No. 78 athlete in his class and the No. 4 player in MN.

With Emmerich now in the fold, Wisconsin football has the No. 18-ranked recruiting class nationally, positioning the Badgers 4th among Big Ten programs in the 2025 cycle thus far.
