Winger Zach Parise has a once-in-a lifetime chance to get maximum dollars in unrestricted free agency.
He can write his own ticket. If he wants giant dollars up front in his new deal -- via a two-stage signing bonus for, say, $24 million -- he will get giant dollars up front.
That is why the New Jersey Devils failed to keep him off the market. As the Noon EDT July deadline neared, Lou Lamoriello took his best shot at securing Parise.
But the bid failed and Parise prepared to hear pitches from multiple suitors. Zach will still consider re-upping with the Devils, but that cash-strapped franchise will be hard-pressed to match the offers to come.
The Senators have already be ruled out of the running for Parise. The Penguins will be an interested party, but that franchise doesn't appear willing to pay the huge up-front price.
