Talk about your Wild developments in free agency . . .
Free agent winger Zach Parise left one Stanley Cup contender, the New Jersey Devils, and rejected others to sign with his home state Minnesota Wild. Free agent defenseman Ryan Suter bailed on the Nashville Predators and jilted the Detroit Red Wings to do the same.
Both players got 13-year, $98 million contracts.
Does this make the Wild a Cup contender? No, but it makes a dreary team a lot more interesting.
This development will leave the Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers all the more aggressive on the trade front.
Suddenly the Rick Nash sweepstakes will crank up again. And the poor Predators might as well move Shea Weber while they can still command a high trade price.
With Suter off to the Wild, Nashville's hopes of locking Weber into a long-term deal got a whole lot tougher.
