The All-Star break can’t come quickly enough for the Stars.
Top centers Mike Ribeiro (MCL tear) and Jamie Benn (appendectomy) might be sidelined until after the break. Rookie center Tomas Vincour (sprained MCL) has been sidelined since mid-December, but he could return before the break.
In their place, Tom Wandell, veteran mucker Steve Ott and possibly Toby Petersen must play bigger roles up front.
“Otter is great at faceoffs, and we have other options, so we're just focused on the guys we have here right now,” coach Glen Gulutzan told the Dallas Morning News. “We'll look at what happens tomorrow and read and react.”
Travis Morin would be the next man up should Dallas make a call to the AHL’s Texas Stars.
Dallas lost to Colorado 2-1 Saturday. After playing at St. Louis Monday, they return home to face the mighty Red Wings.
“I'm excited about the challenge,” Gulutzan said. “I've been dealt worse hands than this before and we came through just fine in those situations. Hopefully we'll be a better team in February for having gone through this.”
